was established in 1996, by Chief Instructor Paul Scott (5th Dan).
Starting tentatively as a 2 Club, 65 Member Association, it has now grown to incorporate approximately 11 Clubs. It has a "Full Time" Headquarters, where all Dan Grade Promotions are conducted, Courses are held, Licences are administered and where Club Instructors meet for training & discussion.
It has recently embarked on an expansion and refurbishment, which will give it a 1800 Sq.Ft. fully matted & equipped Dojo. Also included will be a Gym, Sports Therapy Massage Clinic, Large Open Plan Lounge/Reception & Café. In addition to all this, a Martial Arts Shop open to the Public, which will include an Embroidery Service, Heat Press & Vehicle Signage.
It is a "Full Member" of the Welsh Karate Governing Body, the only "Sports Wales" recognised Governing Body for Karate in Wales.
The change of name in 2007, followed as a result of it's established reputation within the Karate Fraternity Worldwide. Its continued success within Competition, both in the UK & Internationally, its Grading structure and policies, helps to maintain its regard, as an Association of integrity & merit.
As a Traditional Wado Ryu Association, "Welsh Karate Kai" can offer a variety of Courses, Competitions, Instructor Training, Grading or Promotion opportunities to all its Karateka. Its Grading Structure has a comprehensive and extended Wado Syllabus and offers a formal Physical Grading system up to and including 4th Dan.
The Welsh Karate Kai believes it offers its Members, a good balance. Preferring Leadership to Dictatorship, Independence to Isolation, Accreditation to Non-Qualification, Promotion to Stagnation & Success to Failure.
