The Welsh Karate Kai (formerly known as the British Karate Association - Wales) was established more than 10 years ago, by Chief Instructor Paul Scott (5th Dan).

Starting tentatively as a 2 Club, 65 Member Association, it has now grown to incorporate approximately 15 Clubs. It has a "Full Time" Headquarters, where all Dan Grade Promotions are conducted, Licences are administered and where Club Instructors meet for training & discussion.

It is a "Full Member" of the Welsh Karate Governing Body, the only "Sports Council for Wales" recognised Governing Body for Karate in Wales.

The "New Start" or name change, is to ensure that its "Welsh Roots" are formally identified and follows as a result of it's established reputation within the Karate Fraternity Worldwide, its continued success within Competition, both in the UK & Internationally and its regard as an Association of integrity & merit.

As a Traditional Wado Ryu Association, "Welsh Karate Kai" can offer a variety of Clubs, Courses, Competitions, Instructor Training, Grading or Promotion opportunities to all its Karateka.

The Welsh Karate Kai offers its Members, a good balance. Preferring Leadership to Dictatorship, Independence to Isolation, Accreditation to Non-Qualification, Promotion to Stagnation and Success to Failure.
